AFRI YOUTH NIGHT
AT THE GLADSTONE
August 8th
Music Africa's Afrofest Youth Zone and Gladstone World presents the groundbreaking talent of Afrofest Youth Zone's best performers in a show that celebrates a positive vision for our youth. The evening of entertainment will feature poetry, spoken word, dance and a bit of comedy along with many of the top young musical acts in the Toronto area. One of the most exciting developments in the world of African music are the styles being developed by the new generation of young African artists. While a reverence of the veteran artists is evident in much of the music, along with a respect for their own African culture, they have combined popular modern sounds of hip hop, rap r 'n b and other music to create music that reflects their own experience. The result is a fresh new sound that is getting increasing attention and indeed international acclaim. Toronto's celebrated success in this genre is K'naan, the Dusty Foot Philosopher from Somalia, whose music was developed when he moved to Canada as a young teen. K'naan is just one of many young Africans, from many different places on the continent, living in Toronto and playing their own unique brand of music. Come out to support our youth - the next generation of Afrofest! .
